I got a few days of good recovery last week after the Australia Day WSA event as the body was very sore and exhausted which was just a reminder of what playing tournaments feels like again.

Australia Day Tournament being my first tournament back was a great starting point, it highlighted what I need to improve on and what areas I need to work on for the next 5 weeks in lead up to my next tournaments.

I finally got to wear my new squash shoes that I bought over a year ago.  I have looked at my new shoes collecting dust in the cupboard for the past 13 months and just wondered when will I ever get to put them on my feet!

Yes they are very loud and bright and that is normally not me but after looking at them on the internet for over 3 weeks before purchasing them I finally got the courage to order them and a very proud owner, They are so pretty :)

I got a lot of people commenting on them over the weekend with a mixed bag of rema Read more...

Back to lacing up the Squash shoes, back to sweaty clothes and sore muscles, back to tournament clothing and New Harrow rackets, back to 2 training sessions a day and pre and post training meals...back to TRAINING and TOURNAMENT PLAY!!

Since I last posted, my foot has made great progress.  I have just survived my first tournament back playing in the Australia Day Challenge Event.  With only one week of match practice behind me I was unsure on how I was Read more...

I have now completed Day 10 of Paleo for Athletes.  I am feeling great and I have noticed my body's composition changing, my skin is much clearer and just feeling great overall!

I have been craving a bit of chocolate and yogurt at times but I have been able to compress the cravings with fruit salads and dried fruits.

While on this eating plan, I have been pleasantly surprised with how well spices create a breading like crust Read more...

I have just returned to Brisbane after 15 days in Tully, North QLD with my family.  It was a great 2 weeks away - loads of visits to my favorite place Mission Beach, visiting relatives Nana and Nunno, followed by loads of great home cooking and fresh seafood.  On top of this of course there had also been the normal training activities  - running along the beach, strength work, a few bike sessions and a game of doubles with some great friends at the Tully Squash Courts.  Having in mind that I have my first t Read more...

I was going through my old notes, diaries and training plans, and I came across this Poem I wrote down a while ago that I use to read over for inspiration.

Within our reach lies every path we ever dream of taking.

Within our power lies every step we ever dream of making.

Within our range lies every joy we ever dream of seeing.

Within ourselves lies everything we ever dream of Being.

I am currently back training goal is to play WSA tournaments again in 2013 and win Gold at 2014 Commonwealth Games!

I’m excited, but I am taking the training process VERY slowly.

After my injury experience and carrying that injury for so long while trying to continue to train and play and compete, the pain grew worse and the pain in my foot was unbelievable. Once diagnosed with a torn Plantar Read more...

Plantar fascia release surgery involves cutting part of the plantar fascia ligament to release tension and relieve inflammation of the ligament (plantar fasciitis).

I have had lots of trouble with my Plantar Fascia in the past 10 months and re tearing it over and over trying to come back to training. I have used none surgical treatment for the past 10 months which was cortisones (3 of them) which settle it down enough to try and start training, but on my return to training I tore it 2nd time round. The Plantar Fascia was improving but it would get to a point and then plateau c Read more...

I believe that we all should be striving to fulfill what our dreams and passions are in life, and dedicating oneself to this dream does not come easy, it takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice.  No matter who you are or what your passion is, trying to do something as well as you possibly can is challenging mentally and physically and with these challenges comes fear.   As my coach always tells me "If it was easy everyone would do it!"

As a squash player I deal with the fear of failing constantly and to prevent it from taking over I have to mentally overcome tha Read more...

How is Success Defined?

Success is defined in many ways but success shouldn't be defined by monetary gain. Many athletes are successful without making a substantial living from their sport.

The key to success is to be motivated and inspired and you must surround yourself with people that make you feel this way.  It is very important to have a team behind you that you have 100% belief and confidence in.  You are in control Read more...

I don’t get bored very often, even though my life is filled with the same schedule of training, eating, treatments and sleep with very little time left for socializing.  I love it!!   Each day becomes one and I tend to forget what day of the week it is.  I enjoy my routine so much when based in one place long enough to have a constant schedule and seeing improvements happen is such a great feeling.  I have become so accustomed to my training schedules that when my training is interrupted for any reason, I have feelings of restlessness and guilt. The recovery days are a necessi Read more...

As much as I love Squash and hitting that little black ball, I also love getting away from the court after a busy and long season of tournaments.

My last two week holiday away from the Squash Court was visiting my family in North Queensland. Mum, Dad, my brother and I hired a house on South Mission Beach directly opposite the ocean and with an amazing view of famous Dunk Island.

I should clarify what I mean by "Break". I didn't actually take any days off from exercise. I ran, skipped or hit the gym every day but there was definitely no squash, two weeks off the cour Read more...
