All aboard the Pain Train!

09 Feb 2013 | Hits: 415

I got a few days of good recovery last week after the Australia Day WSA event as the body was very sore and exhausted which was just a reminder of what playing tournaments feels like again.

Australia Day Tournament being my first tournament back was a great starting point, it highlighted what I need to improve on and what areas I need to work on for the next 5 weeks in lead up to my next tournaments.

What I need to work on is:

1.Fitness, 2. Match Practice 3. Court movement (Quick feet) & 4. Hard work

During my recovery days off last week I have planned out the next 5 week of training which will take me up to my next tournament.

It's time where the training needs to pick up, I need to be pushing myself out of my comfort zone for most of my session, what do they say "Pain is your best friend" apparently.  Buckle up, here we go!!

I have just completed my first week of high intensity training, back to doing 2 session a day Monday to Friday with 1 session on Saturday morning.  I've learnt this week that I need to pay my attention on making sure I am putting in 100% for ever session, no matter how tired and sore I am if I'm not focused or present (mentally) at the session and prepared to train hard then no point in training at all as the sessions just becomes a night mare (long, withdrawn, and not a lot of progression).  The hardest part is making sure that I am mentally prepared for each session and being focused and present mentally as well as physically.

The running has been going great I am just focusing on clocking in the miles for now, building on the lung and leg endurance for a few weeks before bringing in some speed. I am running pretty frequently for me but still a slow progression.  I clocked in 30km this week, and happy to boast that this mornings run was Mt Coot-tha.  The Mt Coot-tha run has been a run that I have been very afraid of running for many years now, but happy I have overcome that fear completing it this morning in 1hr:24min.  Slow and steady but I got there and I'd like to thank my boyfriend Marcus for pushing me and being by my side when we were in the midst of struggling up the constant climb and me being grumpy and in pain.

I made it to the top, can I die now!

The Amazing view, but I was too tired to appreciate it!  I will have to go up by car one day to take full advantage of the serenity .
