Hometown visit for Lisa Camilleri
‘The Tully Times’ Thursday, 28th November, 2013.
LOCAL HERO: Squash star Lisa Camilleri paid a quick visit to the Tully Times during a three-day trip to the area, and she is encouraging anyone interested in following her progress to keep on track through the Club2Athlete website.
Australian squash player Lisa Camilleri enjoyed time with her family when she flew north for a well deserved break last weekend.
The former Murray Upper girl called into the Tully Times on Friday, saying the weekend visit was the end of a two week break from training.
“I fly back on Sunday and then it’s straight back into an eight-week block of training before the next tournament on Australia Day (Australia Day Challenge 2014) in Ipswich,” Camilleri said.
“Then three weeks after that I’ll be heading over to Manchester with the shadow team for the Commonwealth Games for practise.
“The Australian Com- monwealth Games team for Glasgow will be selected in May.
“I’ll be spending most of February and March overseas and then playing events in Australia and hopefully I’ll be part of the Commonwealth Games team competing in late July/early August.
“I came fourth in the doubles in the last Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010 so I’m hoping for a medal this time.
“A gold one would be nice.
“I’ll be a lot more experienced this time.
“Last time I was quite overwhelmed and star struck seeing all the top Australian athletes, so hopefully I’ll be a bit more used to it this time.”

PROMOTING SQUASH
Lisa Camilleri said she is very interested in holding a coaching clinic or come-and-try squash day in Tully in the future.
“I’d love to organise something to promote squash in the area,” Camilleri said.
“If people are interested in something like coaching clinics, they can send me messages through my Club2Athlete website.
“It would be good to be able to give something back to the community in thanks for the support I’ve been shown.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to bring about a bit of a squash revival in Tully.
“The Club2Athlete website is for athletes and sports fans, allowing connection between them to promote sports, publicise performances and generate funds.
“Anyone can go online to club2athlete.com or check it out on Facebook and athletes can join to promote their careers.
“Any locals who’d like to follow my progress can do so through Club2Athlete.
“I’ve been doing a lot of work on Club2Athlete, creating web pages for athletes and I also do coaching in Brisbane as well.
“This weekend I’m in Tully for my grandma’s 90th birthday; it should be a great family get together. There are about 100 of us and I’m looking forward to the home cooking and lots of catching up.”
