Hello there all my followers, I thought I would take the time to write this article based on one of my sponsors. The sponsor I am writing about is Compressport. I am lucky enough to be one of the very few athletes from Australia and New Zealand to be offered a contract to use their products for squash.
For those of you who have seen me play recently in either a tournament or in training, you should have noticed me wearing some tight socks that come up to my knees, sometimes they are black but most of the time the colours have been quite bright (red or purple). Now apart from them being a bold fashion statement on the court, good or bad, depending on the person judging them, there is a scientific explanation behind me wearing the product.
Compression provides an acceleration of the venous return from the feet to the heart. This considerably reduces the build up of toxins in the legs and more particularly during long efforts. Muscles therefore benefit from improved oxygenation delaying or even eliminating the appearance of cramps and injuries thereby facilitating recovery during effort. All this will allow for longer, high impact training sessions with less fatigue and quicker recovery.
The medical graded fibre used in Compressport products is designed to reduce shock waves and vibrations generated when running on hard ground and thereby preventing tearing of muscle fibres and joint pains. This gives rise to efficiency against aches, contractures, micro tears delaying muscle fatigue and the risk of injury.
There are many products under the Compressport brand, but the ones that I choose to wear and feel are the most beneficial for a squash player are, the Quad sleeves, the full shorts, the calf sleeves and depending on how cold it is I also wear an arm sleeve. The feeling I get personally when I am wearing these products, scientific explanations aside, I feel really warm, springy and strong throughout my workout. On days when I wake up and my body aches from the training done over the past few days, I pull on my quad and calf sleeves and the compression seems to help my legs feel somewhat normal again for the session ahead.
I hope this article has provided some insight as to why not only myself, but a lot of squash players are now using Compressport and other brands of compression products. Its not just that we wear them for the look, we wear them to look good and make ourselves feel better during those hard matches!
